Modern industry wrongly believed that young generations of gamers were just seeking for more resolution , more colors and more FPS, but statistics have proved that not only nostalgic gamers have a taste for pixel art games but there is whole new trend out there to go back to the old fashioned graphics not to mention that lately pixel art games have been able to combine element of low-res design with high-res like shaders for instance that in many cases result in a superior game experience by highlighting certain elements or characters during the game experience helping the gamer stay focused rather than being distracted by too much visual elements being promoted at once.
